Murderous Machine Knitter? Hilda Hopkins

Delightful murder mysteries featuring a machine knitter!

Recommended Reading

From the author of the Hilda Hopkins mystery series, Vivienne Fagan:

"As Great Britain's leading machine knitter and serial killer, Hilda is chuffed you are keen to learn more about her and her adventures. Unfortunately, now she works for M.I.0. if she told you, well, you know what she would have to do.

So let me fill you in a little on our Hilda. She is over 55 but won't reveal her true age. She is smarter than you and me put together, if you have any doubts just ask her and she will set you straight! She might not be the best cook in the world but she keeps a very clean, tidy house.

Most importantly, her machine knitting is second to none. If she hadn't been interrupted by the police so many times she would have entered more contests and proven this to all and sundry. Unfortunately, she keeps having to slip out of tight spots and hit the road, forever on the lookout for a good second hand machine and the time and place to get some patterns done. I'm sure we can all relate to that!

So far Hilda has allowed me to recount five six of her adventures, all of which begin at 'Murder She Knit' followed by "Bed and Burial', 'Domi-Knit-Rix', 'M.I. Knits' and 'For Queen and Country'."

These 6 delightful books are downloadable and reasonably priced - treat yourself to a fun read during the upcoming long winter months.

I want to know more about the author , Vivienne Fagan, "an award winning machine knitter." Surely someone can cite what awards she has won. Can we find pictures?

Vivienne won the Alison Lee Cup 2011, for her entry in the Open Category. The entry was of "Graham" a 1950's English prep School boy, complete with school uniform, satchel and catapult. You can see the entry and result on The Guild of Machine Knitter's UK website under competition results.

Hello Knitters and Hilda Hopkins fans. I am the publisher of the series and am stunned by the response Sue's kind posting about the books has generated. You knitters are a great bunch. I only published these books because I was held at needle point by Hilda herself and threatened with all sorts of dire consequences if I didn't help out (actually I am the author's cousin and love her writing, loved the knitted figures and was happy to be an accessory to Hilda's escapades). Hilda has her own Facebook page but being on the run a lot she hasn't put much effort into it. I will ask Vivienne to post photos of her knitted figures there, as well as any other items of interest to those of you in the craft. Thank you once again for your support and we are sure that if Hilda is ever caught again we will see a horde of knitting fans in the court gallery.
